Honda is a world leader when it comes to automotive innovation. Paving the way with new innovations in the field of electrical powered vehicles Honda is making a resurgence in this field.
While electric vehicles are nothing new and have been around almost since the day the automobile was born, however their ability to become a mainstay in the car market has been a long road due to many constraints such as range and affordability. Due to lack of marketing electric vehicles never really caught on and were overpowered by the gas engine vehicles.
However, more-so now than ever electric vehicles are making a push into a wider market based on the demand for cleaner cars, and the environmental pressures continually being put on auto manufacturers today. As our awareness of our cars effects on the planet became more well known, there began a resurgence in development in electric automobile technology. Honda had made many new advancements in battery technology, which was by far one of the major problems with electric vehicles. However despite tremendous breakthroughs in battery technology, range of electric powered vehicles was still limited, and as such demand for such vehicles continued to be limited.
Until recently very few automakers have made the push in marketing electric cars on a broader range. Honda is now pushing harder then ever in their marketing efforts for them and anticipates that by the year 2020 that 10% of all their car sales will be of electric cars. Their strategy is a smart one, with oil prices continuing to rise the desire for more fuel efficient autos also rise, and with these cars requiring no fuel, the attraction is growing.
A recent study was done in Japan in which consumers were asked what type of vehicle they would most likely consider buying for their next car, the study concluded that 9% of all respondents chose an electric vehicle for their next car purchase, and in the US the same study concluded that 8% of American's would chose an EV for their next car. With the growing interest in cleaner burning, zero emission vehicles, manufacturers are starting to make the shift, to what will ultimately reduce carbon emissions drastically by 2050.
Honda has been developing battery technology for over 17 years and recently conceptualized several models which it says will be in production by 2012. No longer will they be concepts sitting on a chalkboard, but real working models that will include models such as the Honda Civic and Honda Accord. Their goal; to provide reliable affordable vehicles that are not only sleek and stylish, but also provide practical appeal as well. Although these types of cars have been around for the better part of a century Honda is eager to take the lead in developments of new technology that will benefit us all, as well as our environment.

The Evolution Of The Honda Accord
The first generation Honda Accord was launched in 1976 as a two-door hatchback with 68 horsepower (51 kW), a 93. Honda chose the name Accord, reflecting "Honda's desire for accord and harmony between people, society and the automobile. It has achieved considerable success, especially in the USA, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for 15 years (1982-97), and became the first Japanese-branded vehicle to be manufactured in the US. The Accord became the first Japanese car to be produced in the US in 1982, when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Marysville Auto Plant where cars were produced and exported back to Japan. The Honda Accord has been sold in most automotive markets throughout the world. The European Honda Accord, also made in Sweden, became very different from its cousins in terms of styling, and was also shorter than the JDM and USDM Accords.
The Car
The Accord was originally planned to be a V6-powered car with a long hood and sporty pretensions. Vastly improved quality control, however, made this one of the most reliable cars on the US market, a position it still holds today. This was one of the first US production cars to feature optic reflectors with completely clear lenses on the headlamps replacing the more conventional sealed beam styled lighting. A little-known fact about the 1998 Accord was that it was assembled in New Zealand at the very end of overall New Zealand CKD car production (due to changes in tariffs for car importation in that country). Now a vastly different car to the worldwide Accord, the North American model grew larger still, gaining more interior room and weight than its international counterpart. The American Accord was only available in sedan and coupe form, becoming the largest Accord to date
The Next Generation
For the first time, Honda offered an "enthusiast" version of the Accord in the US, adding a sports suspension and mating the 6-speed manual transmission from the Acura CL to the V6 Honda Accord Coupe. Modernizing both the interior and exterior, the second generation Accord was mechanically very similar to the original, using the same 75 hp (56 kW), 1751 cc EK1 CVCC engine. Honda introduced the Insight, America's first hybrid vehicle still the fuel economy leader, in December 1999. Honda then took hybrid technology into the mainstream with the introduction of the Civic Hybrid in March 2002.
The 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid, in only its second model year received a number of improvements including exterior updates to further differentiate the Accord Hybrid from other Accord Models. Honda presented to the world the exciting Accord Tourer Concept and the new generation of Honda diesel engines, i-DTEC at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show. In 2008 the Honda Accord was completely redesigned, boasting more power and passenger space. In real-world use, however, the car's fuel economy was disappointing and people balked at its higher price.
In Conclusion
In reviews, it has been found that the latest Honda Accord continues to excel as a family sedan or midsize coupe. Consumers interested in a Honda Accord but limited to a smaller budget could also check out the fourth-generation Accord, which was available starting in 1990. However, the Accord has matured into a larger car now approaching the likes of the Ford Taurus, but is still given "compact" status. Honda sold the North American Accord in a few other markets including Asian (now made in Thailand), Middle Eastern, Caribbean, Australian and New Zealand markets with mixed results.
When examined from a holistic standpoint, it's easy to see why this Honda car has become an automotive icon and one of our editors' top recommendations.

Engine Drop I have a honda accord 1996 Ex v6......
My accord use to have a 2.7L V6 C27A Honda Motor unfortunately it broke down and now i need another engine for it, i was wondering if the JDM C27A Acura Legend 88-90 v6 engine would fit in my honda accord 1996 with a automatic stock transmission?
well im not really familiar with accord motors, mainly civics.
but it looks like it has the same engine code but different year.
so that means the block and head are similiar to that of a 96. for sure intake manifolds are different. 88-90 are obd0. which means wirng and emisions diagram is very different to that of a 96.
a 96 is obd1 or obd 2 depending when in 96 it was built. your best bet is to stick with the year of your car or newer when choosing a motor for it.Not to mention in Cali its illegal to wap in an older motor in your car, maybe its diff. from where u at.
