A catapult is any apparatus used to hurl an object over great expanses without the assistance of explosive devices. Catapults were most commonly used in wars to hurl rocks, and flaming objects at a besieged city. Even in modern times a catapult is still a very effective mechanism during warfare but it has been improved from the old siege engines used in medieval times.

If you are interested in catapults and how they function, you may make it a small project to create one yourself or with a few friends. Here are a few tips on how you can create a easy catapult with Popsicle sticks. The instructions here are for a small table-top catapult but a big catapult works on the same principles and ought to run the same way if you build it with these tips.

Required Tools

Masking tape

Scissors

X-acto knife (optional)

Paper about 6 inches square

Required Materials

32 Popsicle sticks

Pencil

Rubber band

Instructions

First it should be noted that if you cannot be troubled to build your catapult from scratch and fuss around to make it just right. You may go ahead and buy a catapult plan or a catapult kit which will include step-by-step instructions, pre-drilled holes, pre-cut wood, and all the nuts, bolts and other items you will require for assembly.

Spread out a piece of the masking tape with the sticky side facing up and place 2 Popsicle sticks end to end on the tape and push them firmly onto the tape. Take a third stick and place it on top of the two sticks so that the middle of the third stick is just above the ends of the other two sticks below. Wrap the tape firmly around all three sticks at least twice.

Create 2 more of these groupings and lay all 3 of them end to end and tape them together, wrapping the tape at least 3 times around each joint. Fold the sticks into a triangle and see to it that all the ends are taped together firmly to make a triangle. Replicate the method listed previously and build 2 other triangles for a total of 3.

Hold 2 of the triangles together side by side and tape one wall of them together. Now put the single triangle flat on the table and open the untapped ends of the other two triangles and place them directly around of the one on the table. The one on the table ought to go right between the open ends of the two other triangles. Next tape it all together.

Put 3 sticks end to end with 2 sticks on top as was done in the first step and tape them all together to create the arm of the catapult. Then it is time to create the holder of the catapult. You can use a plastic cork if you have one small enough or you can create a cup out of paper, and tape it just around an inch from one end of your catapult arm.

Next wrap one end of the rubber band about the catapult arm right below the cup and tape it in place. Use tape to additionally lock the other end of the rubber band to the top of the catapult exactly where all the triangles meet and you're ready to go! Go ahead and try out your catapult.

Tips and Warnings

Make sure that your catapult arm can move freely or your catapult will not function correctly. If the rubber band is too short and you cannot get a larger rubber band you can join together a couple of small rubber bands.

Try out different rubber band lengths until you get the power that you are seeking for.

Lose that Jiggly Arm Fat Fast!

Nothing is more annoying than attempting to get rid of that underarm jiggle that continues to wave long after you have stopped! This is a difficulty for ladies much more frequently than men and has a tendency to worsen as you get older. The reason why it is so problematical to eradicate this problem is that it is generally a mix of 2 different factors : fat and shortage of muscle tone. Addressing just one of these issues isn't going to dump the jiggle so you have got to take an all-encompassing approach to conquer it.

To shed the jiggle, you'll have to lose arm fat and tone up your muscles. If you have fat in this area, you most likely also have fat over the remainder of your body. There are not plenty of folks out there with perfectly toned bodies who have underarm jiggle due to fat! It simply is not possible to eradicate the fat in this area without getting rid of the fat overall. To lose arm fat, you'll have to do exercises which will consume calories all over your body. This may include walking at a fast pace, running, playing sports, swimming, or doing aerobics.

You'll need to do these exercises constantly, a number of times per week. Additionally, you'll need to cut back the amount of calories you are consuming so that your new exercise routine will not go towards burning the calories you are consuming now rather than burning the fat you already have stored in your body. Cut out the preprocessed food and those with plenty of fat. Replace oily burgers with a salad and snack on nuts rather than chips. Some straightforward changes will help you lose arm fat much quicker than you imagined. For more ideas on how to eat to lose fat, <a href="http://www.slimtonedbody.com/ "title="link title">click here</a>

The excellent news is that arms are one of the first places to show weight reduction, so when you start a good, healthy plan, you should expect to lose arm fat comparatively fast. Tone the Triceps - the second part of the plan to lose arm fat involves improving the muscle that lies under the skin. The tricep isn't engaged in numerous activities and you have to pay special attention to firming it to shed the jiggle and to fill out the skin to give your arm a smoother appearance.

Tricep Kick-Back : Hold a weight in one hand. Bend at the waist till you are parallel with the floor. Bend elbow of arm with weight to bring the weight to your waist. Slowly reach the weight back, straightening the arm as you go, then return to waist. Repeat 8 times per set on each side. Doo both arms.

Overhead Tricep Stretch : Stand with feet a little apart. Holding a weight dumbbell with both hands, raise till your arms are straight overhead. Holding your elbows close to your head, bend elbows and slowly bring the weight down behind your head. Repeat as many times as you can while holding arms nicely in position. Don't let elbows revolve outward.

With some work, you can feel sexy wearing sleeveless garments again. Measure your arm before you start, and you'll be able to tell when you start to lose arm fat - noting even 1/4" at a time will keep you inspired. Remember, the earlier you start, the quicker you'll  get the results you want!

Is there a way to repair a stripped pedal mount on a bicycle crank arm? Or do I need to replace the crank arm?

It is the right side crank arm. I've tried to remove it but I don't know how. I removed the dust cap and nut, but it won't budge. If I can just repair the pedal mount somehow that might be easier.
It is the right side crank arm. I've tried to remove it but I don't know how. I removed the dust cap and nut, but it won't budge. If I can just repair the pedal mount somehow that might be easier.

If I go with the crank arm replacement, are they all a standard size or do I need to measure and get the exact same size I currently have? (and, no I don't want to spend $200 plus for new crank arms, the bike itself is a Ironhorse Outlaw that only costs 200 new!)

If your pedal mount is stripped out, then you will have to replace it. Even if the pedal still threads into the crank, any loosness will quickly cause the pedal/crank connection to fail.
You can purchase inexpensive single crank arms from a shop- many times shops will have old parts, and if you're not too picky, they can provide one for you without too much trouble. They may have to order one, but even then, it should not be too expensive if you don't need the "latest and greatest" model. The shop can check the crank arm size and type for you (there are different lengths and mount types for cranks) so it's best to simply bring it into a shop.
If a shop is not available, check on the inside of the crank arm for a size printed there: common sizes are 170, 172.5 and 175. Likely it's one of these numbers. Next, check to see what type of crank mount you have: if it is a "taper spindle" type, the bottom bracket axle that the crank mounts on will be square. If it's a notched-type, then you have a slightly more contemporary splined bottom bracket.
Good luck!
