The 2007 MkV Volkswagen GTI, as it's name implies is the 5th generation of the Golf GTI series of cars that Volkswagen started producing in 1976. All GTI iterations have been based off the entry level Golf (also known as the Rabbit in the US), but which have been modified in sporting ways to enhance the appearance, handling, and performance of the base Golf. One feature that both the first generation (MkI) and the fifth generation (MkV) have in common is the use of red and gray plaid cloth upholstering of the seats. Another shared feature that denotes the family lineage is a red trim line in the front grill.

The MkV GTI wears many hats because of the versatile features designed into the car. It is a hatchback, which makes it very easy to load a reasonable amount of cargo into the rear. 15.1 cubic feet of storage space exists when all seats remain upright. This can be substantially increased when the rear 60/40 bench seat is folded down.

Two choices of transmission are available in the MkV GTI: 1) Standard six-speed manual 2) Optional DSG twin-clutch manual. Both are excellent choices, fitting the sporty nature of the vehicle. The DSG transmission has extremely quick, nearly seamless shifting from gear to gear. A manual shift mode is available in addition to automatic for around town driving. For those feeling adventurous, a sport mode exists which will hold each gear to redline (6500 rpm!) before up shifting to make sure you always are in the power band.

The MkV GTI has 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection. Power figures are 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. These numbers may seem modest, but the torque curve this engine provides is what has earned it a place on Ward's Best Engine List multiple times. From roughly 1800 rpm to the 6500 rpm redline the torque curve is very flat. The result of this is fantastic, providing effortless acceleration. Passing at highway speeds is a non-issue in every gear.

Depending on optional equipment, the original price of the MkV GTI varied from $22,000-$27,000. In all specifications, this yielded a great value for the money. For under $30,000 (sometimes well under) one could get a very sporty car which comfortably seats 4 adults, carries a load of groceries, gets 30 miles to the gallon, and puts a smile on your face!

It is 2010 (model year) now, and a new kid is on the block, the MkVI GTI, an update of the MkV. Surely it too carries the torch forward for the Volkswagen GTI family.

Volkswagen of America, Inc. has recently announced that their thirteen-millionth retail sales delivery will happen sometime in the middle of January this year. Volkswagen will provide its thirteen-millionth owner together with the authorized Volkswagen dealer a special recognition as its way of celebrating another sales milestone it has achieved.

It was in the year 1949 when Volkswagen has started its US sales volume began with only two retail deliveries. By the year 1960, Volkswagen has become a familiar sight on US roads and highways resulting to an over 100,000 units of VW vehicles sold annually.

Volkswagen’s product portfolio sold in the US includes the original Beetle, the legendary Microbus, the sporty Karmann-Ghia, the Scirocco models and the all-purpose Thing. 1983 was a great year for Volkswagen because this was the year when Volkswagen introduced the GTI, a car that combines power and economy all in one package. The introduction of the GTI in the US also helped in establishing Volkswagen’s so-called pocket rocket segment.

The Jetta is one of the best selling European sedans produced and sold by Volkswagen in the US. It was branded as safe which is not very common for sporty cars. On the other hand, Volkswagen’s Rabbit hatchback has become the best selling car in the world.

Tales of Volkswagen amazing sales momentum has not ended with the Rabbit. The launching of the iconic New Beetle and the TDI diesel vehicles in the US have increased VW’s sales volume by over half a million by 1998. As a matter of fact, Volkswagen has been able to sell over 800,000 diesel vehicles in the US ranging from its fuel-sipping 1977 Rabbit diesel to the powerful, torque-rich 2007 Toureg V10 TDI.

Volkswagen is optimistic that its high sales volume will continue with the introduction of the hardtop convertible segment with the Eos and its exclusive combination of sunroofs, coupe and convertible wrapped in one stylish package.

06 rabbit gti and 07 golf gti?

well i had asked about a 06 rabbit gti and a 07 golf gti, both of them have the same body style, 06 rabbit has black color grill all the way down with red lip goin across just as the golf gti, but when i parked both of them next to each other the rabbit looks wider from the back than the golf gti and longer, but also the rabbit was lowered down and mine wasn't, i dont know if it looks wider cuz its lowered down or just cuz its a rabbit, and the rabbit has the emblem of a rabbit next to the letters gti and mine doesn't, is the body style any different on dimensions?

It's the same car. In America it's called the Rabbit. I don't know about Europe though.

For the mk5 they changed the name from Golf to Rabbit so anything from 2003 to now is technically a Rabbit, not a Golf.
