Nothing is more frustrating than finding out that all the time and money spent on repainting your home has been for nothing when you discover that the windows and doors have begun to rot. Now begins the process of trying to salvage what is left of the frame components. But unfortunately this is not always feasible and replacement is the only option. These are a few of the common causes of rotting windows and doors.
Improperly Flashed or No Flashing: Without flashing, water can penetrate the joint above the window or door allowing moisture to contact what is unfinished wood.
Unit Not Level, Plumb, and Square: If sashes and door panels do not fit tightly and evenly to their frames they can allow water to penetrate the opening causing damage to unfinished wood.
Poorly Caulked: The caulk is either not applied correctly or the wrong type was used.
Window or Door Not Finished to Manufacturers Specifications: A minimum of 2 coats of high quality exterior paint in addition to a base primer should be used in order to prevent water from penetrating the raw wood.
Frame and Component Improperly Sealed During Manufacture: Wood windows and doors are rarely sealed where frame and components intersect allowing water into the end grain which begins the rotting process.
Inferior Frame Material: Most of today's wood products are made from softer wood (fast growth wood) making the finishing process a critical step in protecting the frame from rot.
Lack of Maintenance: Yearly inspection of wood framed doors and windows, paying attention to jamb and sill intersections, should be performed.
Even with great care and preventative maintenance these products have a relatively short lifespan and will need to be replaced.

Tata Xenon Xt - Review
The charcoal grey interiors catch the eyes instantly. IP styling is great and is analogous to the other Tata models such as Sumo Grande. The finishing is quite superior to its predecessors.
I felt like hugging the person who designed the front end. I felt that it’s just built for me. The large command seating position, tilt adjustable wheel and pedals adds to the comfort. The commanding seats are specially designed for extra comfort with large legroom. I can’t ask for more. In spite of such great features it has some drawbacks too such as irritating central console mounted windows and switches. The thin gear stick too takes away some of its charm.
The rear seating part poses some problems. The small door and high sill line is the root cause of all evil. The ladies department of any family would prefer avoiding sitting at the back. The upright back rest and just enough legroom don’t comply with most of our expectations. The maximum number of people who can board the rear part can be four. Taking five for long distances would cause a bit of discomfort
Like its predecessors the suspension is good and thus offers a smooth ride. The shocks caused by the bumps and potholes are almost absorbed. But the cabin clatters even if the windows are closed.

Any ideas on what could be causing this leak?
I have a finished basement with an acoustic tile ceiling. Over the summer we had several trees on that side of the house removed. Now whenever we get very heavy rain we get a water drip that runs across the subfloor approx 2-4 feet in from the exterior wall and then drips down 1 of the joists (not always the same 1). There is a window on the 1st floor in the same area but over the summer I sealed it up really well with exterior window caulk. I went up this morning and checked the entire area on the main floor (window, frame,sill,floor,wall, ceilings) nothing wet. Any ideas what could be leaking? Also, I had gutter guards installed in October by a roofer who said my roof was in very good shape so likeliness of a roof leak are slim also no water stains on ceilings of main floor.
The landscaping on that side of the house might have been disturbed by the tree trimmers. I piled a bunch of dirt on the side of my house to allow for better drainage.
Make sure the gutter guy installed the drain away from the home where water cannot run back towards the house. it's best to have the downspout buried and sloped away from the foundation.
