Also, spiders are not insects, so they don't get counted, as the question asked for total insects.

At least one of the insects had to have a wing pulled off for there to be an odd number of wings total, since we are dealing with pairs. That means total the number of wings is a useless number.

Assuming that no legs were pulled off, there are 54 insects.

324 total legs / 6 legs per insect = 54 total insects

That also means that 179 wings were pulled off of the insects.
