One thing you can do is become a "Do It Yourself" person. There are classes – sometimes free – that you can take to learn how to do basic maintenance on your bumper pull travel trailer. Keep a checklist handy for when you set up camp, and when you get ready to leave. It will save you from unnecessary repairs due to lack of diligence.

Protect your electric appliances by using a surge protector. It will make your heart sink to lose an expensive piece of equipment in a lightning strike. Only turn on your water heater shortly before you need it, and then turn it off again. Reset your comfort zone for temperature to a little warmer during the summer and a little cooler in winter.

What can you do for fun that is cheap?

Camp near a lake, and go fishing. Go for a hike, but stay on the hiking trails, and take your camera to record your hike. If you have a computer, you can upload your photos to a site like Snap Fish and get prints made when you can afford them.

Take advantage of the "freebies" or inexpensive attractions near where you are camping. This may include craft shows, holiday parades, local museums, and concerts in the park. Hit the computer before you leave home, and check with the local visitor's bureau for seasonal fun.

How is the AWD system in the Matrix?

I own a 2005 Matrix XR AWD. I got it as a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) back in August and love it. It fits me perfectly, and looks slick in black! It has the 6 disc CD changer, moonroof, lip kit, fogs, 16" alloys, VIP security, bumper protector. It's basically loaded!

Anyways, I was curious as to the AWD system itself. It did seem to get good ratings, I know it is not for heavy use like my gf's 05 Liberty Renegade, but what is it capable of? Just wanted to get a feel for people that own them. Thanks!

Toyota's been using their AWD since 1990. We've had serveral of them including a late model Sienna. Great AWD system. All the advantages of 4WD with none of the disadvantages. Superior handling on ice and snow. I don't thank Toyota's had any significant problems with the system since it was introduced. Their A/Ts tend to be "bullet proof".
