It's been a while again, so now it's back to the camaro restoration segment of our articles, and we're getting down to the nitty gritty here, it's time to remove the sub frame, for those not familiar with what the sub frame is, it's easiest explained by telling you it's the from section of the camaro's frame, the parts the your front suspension, braking, and your engine mount to.
You see a camaro is a uni-body car, which is to say that it does not have a full frame, it has a front frame section called the sub frame, and a rear section that are completely separate from each other, all this was done to make the car lighter, and supposedly more safe, but we won't go in to that right now.
The sub frame has four rather large grade eight bolts holding it to the body of the car, and giving all the front end component a place to mount, on top of each mount bolt you'll find a rubber donut called a body mount, the body mounts provide a cushion between the sub frame, and the car body, and deaden squeaking and road noise, they also stop the holes in the body that mount it to the frame for ova ling.
What you need to do is roll underneath the car and locate these bolts, they should be near that back, and about the middle of the sub frame, you'll need to remove the front seats, and carpet to gain access to these bolts, and they may be stubborn and rusted in place, if this is the case, use some penetrating oil to loosen them up.
Before you do any loosening at all, be 100% sure to put jack stands under the body of the car, or when you remove the sub frame the firewall of the car will bounce off of the floor, and you don't need that, so don't get ahead of yourself, take the time to do the job the right way, and by the right way, I mean the safe way.
After you have the car body supported in some way, you can remove the front wheels from the car, after you do that you'll need to remove the brake lines from the calipers, or drums, what ever is on your particular car, also be sure to support the sub frame by putting the wheels back on the car, this will make it so you just have to roll the sub frame out from under the car once the mounting bolts are loose.
Now that you have the front wheels back on the car, let's remove the four mounting bolts, while supporting that back of the sub frame, once the mounting bolts are loose, you can just roll the entire sub frame out from under the car, and clean it, and do the repairs that it may need, and get it ready for paint.

The Fall and Rise of The Camaro
After decades of success, Chevrolet killed the Camaro in 2002. In doing so, the company gave up their strong position in the sports car market to Ford's Mustang and the many sports cars coming from Japan. No longer was Chevy the king of American muscle cars. After thirty five years, the Camaro died with a whimper. It was a terrible day for Camaro fans.
Why would Chevy kill an iconic model that was successful for 35 years? Why did the Camaro end? There are two reasons. The Ford Mustang was destroying it in sales and the Chevrolet Camaro lost its way.
In the late nineties and early 2000's it was clear that the Mustang was having much better sales than the Camaro. The Ford Mustang went from being underpowered and ugly in the eighties to fast and sexy in the late nineties and it got even better in this recent decade.
At the same time, the Chevrolet Camaro went from being sexy and powerful in the eighties to becoming too sleek, too smooth, and ultimately, very generic looking in the nineties.
For reasons unknown, Chevrolet made a mistake in the nineties. Instead of making the Camaro look awesome like it did in the sixties and eighties, that is to say a tough muscle car, Chevy tried to make the Camaro into "A poor man's 'Vette". In doing so, Chevy took away the character and soul of the Camaro. It just wasn't the Camaro anymore.
The end result of that was a vehicle that did not compete with the rebirth of the Ford Mustang. The Mustang began to shed the design trends of the early to mid nineties to go back to looking like a muscle car again.
Also, the foreign sports cars like the Mitsubishi Eclipse were very popular with the younger driving crowd. Movies like The Fast And The Furious showcased the import tuner cars as being fast and incredibly sexy. Add those factors and you've got terrible sales and production numbers for the Camaro.
In 2004 Ford unveiled the 5th generation Mustang and it set the way for what Chevrolet was about to do. The new Mustang is a homage to the original muscle cars of the sixties. It was tough and it was felt like a real muscle car. That's right, the muscle car is back and Mustang is leading the charge. The consumer response to the new Ford Mustang was immediate. People love the new look and it sells very well even now.
In 2006 Chevrolet unveiled a concept car that would be the basis for the 5th generation Camaro. It is a design that feels like the first generation again. The Camaro got its soul back.
Now the Camaro became an object of extreme desire for many. The car has power and sex appeal - the two core elements to a great muscle car. One thing is for sure, the new model can't come soon enough.

camaro front bumper lights?
why dont my new front bumper lights fit my 02 camaro?
i bought it especially for that model, but the bumper light on a camaro is long and thin while the one that i bought is short and triangular???
arent front bumper lights the same as signal lights?
you probably have not even tried to install them! the signal ligths for the camaro are triangular and kinda fat, thats because the front bumper covers part of the signal/bumper light and from the outside makes it look like its a long thin line.
tip: if you re going to replace the headlights too, you better take off the headlights and replace the signal/bumper lights, its much more easier to fit in the bulb from the top!
New Camaro Gets a Not-So-Newish Nose [Custom Cars]
# customcars For some, the new Camaro's retro-modern restyle isn't "retro" enough. One solution's to follow this guy's footsteps and slap a copy of the 1967 Camaro's blunt-nosed front end on the new muscle car. Yes, somebody's been drinkin' heavily. More »
