When creating a fun decorating scheme for a boy's bedroom there can be few ideas as certain to get the thumbs-up than a football theme. Colours

Excepting teams whose colours are white, generally speaking reds and blues predominate and are reasonably simple to match. Just take a swatch of the colour to your nearest DIY store and they'll be able to supply you with paint to match.

If you are using a lot of colour with bedding and accessories then adding further colour with paint should be done sparingly. Perhaps paint the skirting boards and door frames in the main colour and use a lighter colour for larger areas such as for walls and ceilings. Window frames are usually best left white although doors can sometimes look OK when painted in a dark colour.

Accessories

There are no shortages of football themed accessories to buy and these include light fittings, clothes hooks, name plaques, clocks, waste paper bins and just about anything where a football character or logo can be attached. There are also quite a few individual and original ideas around too, so have a good look around before plumping for the obvious accessories which are often sold with the bedding. Ideas we like include handmade football themed name plaques, light fittings, canvasses and prints.

Inevitably the amount of football related paraphernalia will multiply over the years so ensure that you accommodate for this with shelving and display furniture.

Maintenance

The real benefit of creating a perfect theme is that most children will take more care to keep it in good order. Football themes are generally easy to keep maintained although you should bear in mind that dark colours used on doors and woodwork may show scratches and chips more readily, so ensure you keep any paint left over for touch-ups.

Overall a football themed bedroom will be a great hit, be relatively simple to achieve and will keep most young boys happy and contented for many years to come.
