The 2005 Honda Civic sets the benchmark for reliability and resale value. Everyone seems to know this, but what's new and what can you expect out of the new Civic Coupe?

The Honda Civic Coupe models range from the DX - Value Package, the HX - Lean burn machine, to the LX and the top of the line EX model. The DX model is the base Civic Coupe. It has the 115 hp engine and limited creature comforts. The HX is your high mileage lean burn car. The lean burn means you can get 36 MPG city and 44 MPG highway as opposed to the LX and DX 32 MPG and 38 MPG. The EX suffers a 37 MPG highway drop probably due to the more powerful 127 hp engine.

The EX gives you some little things like body colored mirrors, sunroof, memory seats, height adjustable seats, too, along with an illuminated ignition switch. Wheels are upgraded to 15" alloys and the EX also has a six-speaker system with a CD that can read MP3 files. While all these features are nice, most of the extra goes into getting the 16-valve SOHC V-tech engine.

Handling characteristics are based upon the double wishbone rear suspension and the 4 wheel independent suspension. This allows for better handling with the MacPherson struts in the front tied to a high steering ratio. Get ready to have some fun driving again. But don't worry all models have front airbags. Most models are offered with front side air bags, too. ABS is standard on the EX, keeping the braking to a minimum, especially in wet or slippery conditions. Transmission is your choice of 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, or the continuously variable on the HX model.

The interior is ergonomically designed with wide seats and easily located controls. The front seats have deep side bolsters to hold the driver in place during aggressive cornering. But, they are comfortable for daily driving and hauling around 4 of your friends. The rear seats fold down to haul long cargo. A sunroof is available only with the EX model.

The air conditioning has a filtration system. But AC is an option on the HX model.

Honda offers nice factory options to customize your new car. They include a rear deck lid spoiler, wing spoiler, aero kit, splashguards, trunk mat, and my favorite, a trunk apron. It covers the bumper and open area when you are loading and unloading things from your trunk.

The new Honda Civic is one of the new classics or our age. Relentless reliability coupled with amazing resale value gives a good-looking care even more appeal to new buyers.

The Best Trunk Rack I've ever used

I've used many trunk racks. Most of them have rubber straps that hold the bike to the rack, with holes in the strap to adjust their tightness. Inevitably, what happens is the strap is too loose (insecure) in one hole, and too tight (wearing out the rubber) in the next. And they dry rot. The Saris, on the other hand, uses a plastic, ratcheting strap that allows small, precise adjustment to tightness. It feels very secure. The metal core of the rack is aluminum, so it won't rust. The attachment straps run through the center of the core, which would make replacing them very easy. They also have metal cams, so getting them nice and tight is very easy. No more threading the strap through awkward plastic buckles, pulling hard to try to tighten them down. The legs of the rack are some kind of molded plastic, and despite their lightness, seem pretty strong. Instead of the crummy foam pads on many racks, the Saris uses a plastic or hard rubber pad at all surfaces that touch the car. I don't know how well they will wear, but they seem better than the foam. I also like the fact that the rack is made in the United States.

The only real downsides are common to most trunk racks:

1-No lock.
2-Bikes are pretty close to each other, and can rub against each other or have clearance issues.
3-the straps press any top-tube cables against the frame of the bike, and could cause wear.
4- While the arms can move closer or further apart from each other (very useful, and unique!), it still could be hard/impossible to attach some ladies or rear-suspension bikes.
5- A certain amount of fussing with bungees and/or pads may be needed with multiple bikes

I've used the Saris with 2 large mountain bikes, and it felt comfortable and solid. I'm not sure if I would recommend putting 3 large mountain bikes on it, but it would probably be fine. Road bikes shouldn't be an issue at all.

The Saris Bones is a good bike rack. I'm sure other racks fit bikes much more easily than this one, but this rack is perfect for my car with a trunk spoiler. Mountain bike fits pretty snug and it is a squeeze but it gets the job done. Road bike fits much better.

I was introduced to the Saris Bones Bicycle through Saris's Website, never seen one in real life, until I received it. The Video Saris has on their website sold me. My car has a rear spoiler and the Saris rack fits perfect.

A little crowded

This was our first bike rack - we chose it based on customer reviews and the reputation of Saris. I liked it before we put it on the car - it's solid and the strap system is very secure. Mounting the rack onto the car was very straightforward. But... it took forever to get all 3 bikes on! The mounts are so close together that pedals were jamming into wheels, handlebars were jamming into seats, etc. One of our bikes is a child bike - if it weren't, I'm not convinced that we would have been able to mount all three. I suspect that this is a common problem. It would have been helpful if the mounting instructions included some tips for positioning things.

We also dented the back of the trunk door the first time we used the rack. Since then, we've positioned it lower so it pushes on the fender, and have not had any trouble. But again, a note about this in the instructions would have been nice.

awesome rack! very easy to install and very sturdy. the first time i used it i kept checking the bikes in the rearview mirror and they never moved. i even hit some bumps to see how they'd do and they still were stable. the feet don't scratch my car's paint, either. on top of that, it looks cool (and i'm so glad i could get it in purple!). great product!

How do I remove a spoiler from a car?

I realize there would be holes where the spoiler connected to the trunk, but can I fill these holes in myself? Is it easy that even a bonehead like myself can do? Or must I take it to a shop?

I am buying a G35 coupe, but I want the Bose system, problem is, the package the Bose system comes in, also comes with a spoiler, which I believe completely destroys the lines of the G coupe.

If you are buying new, ask the dealer to get one w/o a spoiler. Items like spoilers are all aftermarket items, rare a factory will install such an item as it goes down the assembly line.

Yes they are removable. Just open the trunk and unscrew the wing. From there you could do a few things:

1. put plastic clips into the holds to cover them and hide them.
2. buy a trunk lid from a junk yard off a front end totaled one
3. have the trunk lid patched, filled and repainted
4. buy a new trunk lid and have it painted and mounted

I am not an Infiniti fan by far......GS400 is my baby....but I will give credit......the G35 coupe is one of the sexiest lined cars I have seen.
