A rear projection TV is a less expensive alternative option for big screen plasmas and liquid crystal displays. All that one would need to install a rear projection TV is some free space on the floor. The name itself indicates that the picture in this type of TV is produced by reflecting the light from behind the screen unlike the general traditional projection systems of the past in which the projector is placed in front of the screen like in movie theatres. The construction of it involves five elements altogether and they are as follows.
- A projection system which is typically used for producing images and videos on the screen is the first component.
- The second most important component is the type of lens assembly used to create magnified images for projection.
- The positioning and the requirement of employing a mirror in the set up to reflect the image projected.
- Another obvious requirement for a rear projection TV is a display screen on which the projected images are being displayed.
- Last but not the least is the requirement of a seal box to contain all the above said components intact.
There are various types of projection technology being used till date by many flat panel televisions. But the rear projection equipments use three types of projection technologies and they are as follows.
- CRT (Cathode Ray Tube projection technology) - This method was used by the earlier models of a rear projection set. In this technology three small cathode ray tubes were used represent each color in the RGB series. These tubes are then coupled with lens that magnify light and this whole setup projects a color image onto the mirrors which is one of the components of rear projection sets and then reflected back to display images onscreen.
- LCD (Liquid Crystal Display projection system) - There is a transparent LCD chip which is made up several small pixels and they are used in this technology. When light passes through this chip it the images are projected and magnified after which they are reflected on to the screens. This technology is not used these days in the rear projection sets but can be mostly found in the sets which have been sold in recent years.
- DLP (Digital Light Processing projection system) - This technology is the latest innovation in the processing of images in the rear projection systems. Its working is similar to the liquid crystal display projection where in the image is being projected on a chip. The only difference would be that the chip used in a DLP rear projection sets are entirely different than that used in a LCD rear projection sets. The chip used in the sets is termed as DMD (digital micromirror device) which contains many aluminum mirrors to reflect light and hence the resolution in the DLP sets is high. At first, the image is produced in the form of a gray scale and then colors are added to the picture as the image passes through the high speed color wheels.
What Is Rear Projection Television?
What is rear projection television? The term comes from the fact that the rear projection TV sends the image onto the viewing screen from behind the screen. When you are in a movie theater, the image in projected onto the front of the screen. That is why the projector is behind the audience in a movie theater.
If you are really into television, that the bigger the screen the better, right? If you feel that way about your television viewing, then no doubt you are considering moving up to the big, big televisions that are now available in the market.
While most of the recent interest is on flat screens and LCD screens, improvements in rear projection TV makes this a wise purchase to consider. Advances in the quality of the picture using rear projection TV make this a reasonable and less expensive alternative to the big flat screen televisions.
Advances in the technology of rear projection TV provide a variety of models that have never been available before. Your normal television set probably uses a CRT or cathode ray tube to project the image. Many rear projection TV use the same technology.
These units are quite large though when you increase the screen size very much. There are offsetting picture quality benefits. You may get better blacks and colors, but if the image is not properly aligned, this type and rear projection TV can produce improper color blending.
Another type of rear projection TV is based on a Liquid Crystal Display. However, this is not the same as the LCD used in a flat panel screen. This type of rear projection TV offers many advantages including that the size of the unit is quite small in comparison to the CRT models.
There is high contrast and brightness in the LCD based rear projection TV picture. Some disadvantages also exist. I will not go into the 'technical' but sometimes the image looks a little fuzzy, described as trying to watch TV while looking through a screen door.
Perhaps the newest rear projection TV technology is called Digital Light Processing. As the name implies, your television image is digitized and computerized and whatever else high technology does, but you get a great picture quality without some of the disadvantages of the other types. Problems with this type of rear projection TV is that include what is called the 'rainbow' effect if you move you eyes quickly from the TV to the surrounding room.
Find a reputable dealer, explain your viewing needs, and look at the different types of rear projection TV yourself. There is no reason not to have the best and biggest viewing experience with all this new technology in the rear projection TV.

I've got a little gas powered "g-scooter" with a blown rear tube.?
Does anybody know how to replace the rear tube? It looks like a bear to do as the tire/tube is mounted on a split rim.
Any help given would be greatly appreciated!

You actually got a couple really good answers don't forget to leave about a 1/4 inch play in the chain and be sure the tire is straight or your belt or chain will pop off.
